Most people venture out on vacation to relax and see some sights, stroll aimlessly through a historic town, discover a hidden treasure or two, and enjoy the local wine and cuisine.
Patricia Harris loves to travel and enjoys all of those things, too, but she does something else that most vacationers wouldn’t consider. She looks for homes with a “For Sale” sign in the front yard! It doesn’t matter where she goes—anyplace in the U. S., Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, the Bahamas, Italy, Portugal, anywhere —she is looking for beautiful properties that she would love to own!
“My husband and I dream about buying homes in different areas,” she says, “Anywhere we go, we look at houses.” She imagines improvements that would make the homes more efficient and more appealing or would add more value.
Every place has its own unique style of architecture. She delights in the use of different building materials based on the region’s climate, culture, and contour of the land, whether it’s the stucco of island homes painted in pastel hues or the red tile roofs of Southern California. She loves all of it!
Why the fascination? “My lifelong dream was to become an architect and then a doctor so I could go to remote places and help people build their homes and cure them if they were sick,” she says. “I guess when you are young, you have lofty goals.”
Her life has always been about overcoming challenges. She was brought up in a modest household with loving parents who taught her the meaning of hard work and the power of one’s strength regardless of adversity. Her parents would say, “Always ask. You already have the No. The only other possible answer is Yes.”
It wasn’t always easy, but Patricia worked her way through college and earned the equivalent of a master’s degree in architecture and then went to medical school for one year. Although she didn’t become a doctor, she is passionate about helping people. She has volunteered at a children’s hospital emergency room, directing people from the front desk, helping nurses attend to their little patients, and holding children’s hands in the operating room. In Washington, D.C., she helped care for babies given up by their drug-addicted parents through the Boarder Baby Project, and she read and recorded entire books in Spanish to be distributed to the blind.
She did fulfill her dream of becoming an architect and loved designing houses for many years—uniting beauty and functionality—and loves searching for them far and near on every trip. She truly believes in the familiar saying, “Home is where the heart is.” One day she thought, “If I love homes so much and have so much fun touring properties far away, why don’t I do it all the time?”
She decided to become a REALTOR and show properties on a daily basis. “So in a way, I am still helping people . . . by guiding them when choosing the right house or the one with the most potential or helping them showcase their home the best way possible.”
Whether moving across town or across state lines, there are many points to consider when buying or selling a home. Patricia’s clients appreciate her insight and professional guidance while they are making this major life decision. She understands how frustrating the process of buying and selling can be, particularly negotiating favorable terms during a down economy. Her clients count on her expertise to help open a door to their future.
Patricia has a unique approach to building relationships with her clients. It begins with consciously listening to their needs, embracing high-level personal values, and creating a Win-Win situation for everybody to succeed.
Communication. A clear path of communication is of the utmost importance to Patricia. If clients and agents communicate well, there will be little room available for confusion or questions.
Loyalty. An agent and client work best together when both parties feel a sense of loyalty to each other. Establishing loyalty creates a strong team with a shared goal.
Integrity. Patricia holds herself accountable to be consistent in her efforts to help clients, to act responsibly on each client’s behalf, and to treat everyone equally—with respect.
Empowerment. Whether buying or selling for the first time or the tenth time, Patricia walks her clients through the process, teaching them what they need to know along the way so they can feel completely in charge of the transaction.
Need-based goals. When buyers tell Patricia they want to be located near a metro station or in a private cul-de-sac, she doesn’t show them properties in a rural community or on a main thoroughfare. She does the necessary research to save her clients time and to hone in on their specific goals.
Truth. Some agents may be in the habit of sugar-coating problems to pull clients along until it’s too late or they may push clients into a home outside of their price range just to make the deal. Patricia points out potential obstacles and discusses all private financial matters with complete confidentiality. The truth is always the best solution.
Satisfaction. If Patricia’s clients aren’t happy, she’s not happy. At the end of the day when all is said and done, Patricia wants her clients to be happy with her work, to be satisfied with their choices, and to call her again when it’s time for the next move. That phone call is proof positive that Patricia serves her clients well!
Patricia’s education and experience in architecture and designing livable spaces gives her an edge over other realtors. Homes—her own and those she would love to own—are her passion. She is a trained designer, and knows space, proportions, and colors. She can see the possibilities. She can look at a property and immediately see not just what it is but what it can be. She can help a client increase curb appeal and suggest architectural touches that will improve a home’s value. Her genuine desire to help people and her level of competence, commitment, and concern make her a client-centric realtor.
Patricia knows the area and the nuances of each neighborhood—things like traffic flow, noise levels, school quality, and the availability of community resources. She is knowledgeable about mortgage options and creative financing and can present her clients with a variety of possibilities to help them find the right path.
Once a family becomes Patricia’s client, she becomes dedicated to doing what it takes to help them achieve their goals, whether that means showing a buyer many properties or placing a certain number of ads for a seller. She has a narrow “say-do” gap, which means she does what she says she’s going to do. She feels an obligation to follow through and close up all the loose ends from beginning to end.
Patricia’s frame of reference is this . . . When a family decides to move, it is important to choose the right home in the right location because that multilayered decision will affect their quality of life on a daily basis. Is the home large enough? Is it too large? How far is it from work? From school? From shopping? For sellers, is the home priced right? Is it staged well to attract buyers? Can improvements be made to enhance the home’s appearance inside and out? Patricia shares her clients’ concern about these important issues. There is nothing more important.
Are you thinking about buying or selling . . .
A large Colonial?
A small Cape Cod?
An investment property?
A home on the waterfront?
A home in a golf community?
The greatest power you have is the power to choose, so choose

Real estate is about relationships : During a typical transaction, we will spend a lot of time together often in stressful conditions and operating under tight deadlines.
We will get to know each other pretty well during the weeks or months it takes to find your perfect home or to sell your current one. But when the dust has settled and the movers have moved on, then the post-sales part of our relationship begins.
If you need anyone for your new house, plumber, electrician, insurance etc, you name it, I know someone wonderful people that can help you. Need help with a remodel, say no more, with decades of experience in construction as an architect and designer and I can advise you on that too.
You see, it is not just paper work and driving around, I really want you to be extremely happy with your purchase and or the outcome of your sell, that honestly makes me extremely happy.
What do you I ask for this service? well, a commission check of course :), but also the honor of your referral to friends or family that might need real estate advise or help.
